We went to Disney on Ice Follow your Heart with our (then) 3 year old and let me just say it was fabulous! I splurged for front row seats and it was worth every single penny. My little one absolutely loved it and so did we. I was debating with myself about taking her to Disney World for a while now and I figured, okay, why not start with Disney on Ice?
The show came right to Newark, NJ at the Prudential Center and for weeknight tickets (for 3 people) cost about $275.00, which wasn’t too bad actually when compared with the weekend prices for the exact same seats. Parking was another $20.00 – cash only. I wish I could say that was it, but we ended up buying more stuff when we got inside (more on that later).
The way the arena is set up is definitely to cash in our the little one’s excitement and desire to have more ‘toys’ and light up items. Every few feet there was another booth selling the same exact items. We had a pretty long walk and had to tell our little one over and over no. She of course cried and had a mini meltdown 😐 (thanks to the clever Disney marketing and sales reps) but we finally got to our seats. Did I mention they were front row seats! There was nothing stopping my little one from jumping out the chair and running directly onto the ice. Thankfully, she did not do this, but she did try. 🙂 She wanted to hug some of the characters.
Anyway, once we settled into our seats I left her with her dad and headed up to buy light up Minnie ears, a frozen snow cone cup with an Olaf straw and a Frozen light up wand. The grand total? Wait for it! $66.00 – *insert eye roll here* but whatever it was all part of the experience right? Next time, we will buy some outside the arena for cheaper.
The lights dimmed and the show started! At first, I was a little worried that she wouldn’t really know all the characters because she just started getting into Disney Princesses and still hadn’t seen the classic movies yet. But, I was pleasantly surprised when she knew all their names and watched the singing and dancing and skating intently.
My absolute favorite moment from the show was the Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast, turns out that’s what caught my daughters attention the most too because afterwards she wanted to watch the movie. Overall, the show was fantastic and yes front row for us is a must! The characters came right to the edge of the stage, waved at my little one and really interacted with her and her reaction was priceless. We will definitely be going again in the near future, because we all enjoyed the show.
