So ever since becoming a mommy, I’ve been getting into essential oils. It first started as a natural way to get rid of some congestion and help with relaxation and sleeping. Most people have heard that lavender is helpful for sleep, so instead of using a baby product full of chemicals and artificial lavender scent I decided to use essential oils instead. Lavender was the first essential oil I used, in my little newborn bath tub I added a few drops of the lavender oil into the water and never looked back. Next up, when my little one got her first cold I turned the shower on the hottest setting and let the steam fill the bathroom and put some eucalyptus oil into a mug with boiling water. I stood in there rocking and patting her back before bed to help her sleep, when that worked I was hooked. We started using essential oils all over the house, here are our top 3 uses for essential oils around the house.
Cleaning the Kitchen Sink
I mix baking soda with a few drops of your favorite essential oil, I love lemongrass. Then sprinkle it around in the sink, I use a rag to scrub around the sink then I use regular white vinegar to make it all bubbly, scrub a little more then rinse the sink. This not only cleans the sink but it freshens up our garbage disposal, so it’s a 2-in-1 powerhouse cleaner.
We have new carpet in the family room of our home, but I like it to smell fresh. So I mix up baking soda with whatever scent I decide I want. If everyone is sick I always reach for peppermint or eucalyptus. For O’s room we always use lavender to make the room more restful.
Toilet Refreshing Tabs
I found an awesome recipe on Pinterest on how to make these fizzy toilet bombs. The article says it’s for cleaning the toilet but I’ve found that it doesn’t cut it as a cleaner but it does refresh it a bit. Plus, they are fun to drop into the toilet. I’ve also dropped one into the garbage disposal and like that use a lot better than the toilet.
The Essential Oils brand I always reach for is EO Products. They have lots of great blended essentials oil so you can whip up something really special. One of my favorite blends is their relax blend, which I like to mix with unscented body wash for a truly relaxing experience. Find EO Products essential oils here.
