The end of breastfeeding for me and my daughter is right around the corner, I can just feel it. She’s already 13 months, eating loads of table food and really only wants to nurse before naps, for comfort if she falls or hurts herself, and before bed. I’m letting her self-wean and I suspect that the end is near. I thought I might be a little sad about it and I know once it happens I might be, but right now I’m looking forward to the end of breastfeeding for several different reasons.
First things first, I can finally wear a real bra again. During pregnancy and afterwards, my breasts were super sized and I refused to buy an expensive bra that I would not be able to fit once I finished breastfeeding. So I’ve been wearing my nursing bras and sports bras. As a fan of pretty undergarments this whole process has been a little annoying. A few months ago I broke down and visited a bra boutique for a proper fitting, imagine my surprise when she said you wear a 30G. Yes, that’s not a typo that’s the letter G. I giggled to myself and thought, she must be new or something but I tried on the bra anyway. Lo and behold, the darn thing fit, not just fit, it fit amazing well and supported me like nobodies business but I just couldn’t fathom paying $70.00 for a bra that I would only be able to wear for a few months. So I vowed to return for another fitting a month or so after I finish nursing for good.
I’m really looking forward to getting a few items from Nubian Skin, a line of lingerie that features items in realistic skin tone colors for women of color. Because really, Ivory and that tan color that passes for nude is not really nude for us brown skinned beauties, right ladies? You can visit the site and determine your color (berry, cinnamon, caramel, and cafe au lait), if you aren’t certain they even have a handy foundation matching guide that can help you. Added bonus, they ship worldwide!
Another thing I’m looking forward to trying out is RevitaBrow! I already have thick eyebrows, but they are not exactly thick all over so I’m going to attempt to grow some more hair in some of the sparser areas. I have been waiting to use it because there are warnings against using the product and nursing.
Finally, I’m really looking forward to sampling a few different teas that I was a little nervous to try while nursing, like Bamboo Tea. Relaxed Hair Health has been singing the praises of this tea for a while now when it comes to hair care, so I’ve been waiting to try it out. Also, one of my good friends tried a tea while working out and lost a lot of weight, so I want to try that out as well.
So mommies who nursed or pumped, what did you look forward to doing once nursing stopped completely?
