Break the Cycle: Skip Dry Skin this Winter
Colder weather and dry skin are like synonymous but this winter I'm working hard to change that. Keeping skin moisturized from the inside and on the outside is key, but one thing I refuse to change is my nice hot showers and baths. These two things soothe my soul, okay that might be a tad bit extreme but they of relax me and soothe my achy muscles so they have to stay. Not to mention, a lukewarm shower in the middle of the winter is less than appealing. So, to combat the dryness that comes with really hot showers and baths I'm changing around my products and using a different approach when it comes to moisturizing post-shower.
First of all, I've changed up my soaps and body washes. Now I'm using more moisturizing formulas, like Dove Ultra Rich Velvet Cream Oil Body Wash. Not only does this gently cleanse my skin it moisturizes at the same time.
Once I get out the shower, I pat dry and then moisturize my skin immediately. Before I used to dry off and wait a while before I slathered lotion on. The key here is sealing in the moisture from the shower. My favorite lotion for providing moisture is Keri Shea Butter Lotion. This lotion really moisturizes deeply and lasts all day long. No one wants to have to keep applying lotion to their legs and arms, with this lotion you don't need to.
For my lips, I have a different lip balm (not gloss) in every location possible. There's at least one in my purse, coat pocket, car, locker at work, bedside table, couch cushion, you name it! For a lip balm, I look for something that is going to actually moisturize my lips not just coat them. Some of my favorites are Yu-Be, 3Lab Perfect Lips, Bliss Fabulips, Snog Balm.
As a nurse, my hands are quite possibly the driest part of my body, in any given day I probably wash my hands 10x more than the average person. This is why, I'm always on the hunt for the perfect hand cream and I keep hand cream everywhere just like lip balm. I'm always writing about different hand creams, but one of my all time favorites is Jurlique Purely Age-Defying Hand Cream.
Now the newest member of the keep me moisturized team is First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. This cream makes the team because it's provides great moisture to the most sensitive area, my face. The skin on my face has certain spots that love to dry out, but at the same time my skin is extremely sensitive. If you look at it wrong I'll get a hive in no time, but extremely soothing and causes no hives and since it also creates a barrier against the elements it's perfect for use when you will be outside for an extended period of time.
