Armpit Woes: Secret Deodorant Caused Burns


News flash: I sweat!  I sweat a lot and I always always use an anti-persipirant/deodorant combo.  Recently, I decided to try a new combo... Secret Flawless Renewal Satiny Tropical and it literally burned the skin on my armpits.  I knew something was wrong because after a few days of use my armpits started itching and burning like crazy.  I stopped using the Secret but the damage was already done.  My once flawless armpits, are now scarred with dark marks from where the Secret Flawless Renewal Deodorant burned my skin.  



Even after I stopped using that stuff my armpits caused me severe agony, I even considered going to the ER... yup it was that bad.  The itching was intense, mix that with burning and pain and you get the picture.  Keep in mind that I've had laser hair removal on my armpits, the discomfort from laser hair removal was nothing, NOTHING compared to what Secret Flawless put me through.  I'm not sure exactly what in the Secret caused the crazy reaction, but I know I'm not alone.  I shared my story with a co-worker and she said the same thing happened to her after using a Secret product.  In case you're wondering: the active ingredient in the Secret was Aluminum zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex Gly 19%. 

Now that my armpit is scarred I've vowed to find a more natural deodorant, but I just can't sacrifice odor protection so I'll be testing a bunch of different natural deodorants and sharing my results right here on Beauty Blvd.

    May 10, 2010 4:04 PM I use secret flawless everyday and it has worked wonders for my arms. I'm so sorry that this has happened to you, maybe it was allergic reaction to something in the deodorant.

    May 12, 2010 7:01 AM The same thing happened to me after using Dove for years. I decided to switch and was recommended to use Crystal deodorant. Its clear and unsented. What's cool about Crystal deodorant is that it doesn't contain aluminum, won't stain your clothes and uses mineral salts to kill bacteria under your arms that actually causes underarm odor. If you decide to try Crystal deodorant, get the roll-on. It takes a while to dry but it is amazing! It cleared the dark marks under my arm in about 1 week.

    May 12, 2010 7:38 AM Crystal deodorant!!! I will never use regular deodorant after using Crystal. Its cheap ($3.99) and works wonders. My underarms are dry and smell like nothing, letting my perfume be the star of the show. Crystal kills the odor while reg. deod. masks the odor with heavy perfumes. Try it out and see how it works for you. I love it!

    October 23, 2010 11:18 AM The very same thing happened to me! I've been using zinc ointment on my underarms for the last 2 weeks and still wake up in the middle of the night with burning.
