2 HIP Shadows for $4.99!

I'm so pleased with myself, I got two L'Oreal HIP Shadows for just $4.99! Currently, CVS is running a buy one get one free deal on the L'Oreal HIP products, plus there was a $2.00 coupon in my sunday newspaper, so I got a steal! Anyway, I picked up Flare (404) and Showy (224). Flare is an orange color with a golden color and Showy is a vibrant ocean blue and a deeper blue. Flare is a great alternative for MAC's mineralize shadow in Heat Element (remember that?) the colors are similar just L'Oreal's verison is available a half the price, probably even less.

SweetSpot Labs - Intimate Grooming

How do you care for your SweetSpot?

icon

icon

"Do you brush your teeth with shampoo? Wash your hair with toothpaste? Of course not. But you use WHAT? On your WHERE? Why would any woman cleanse any part of her body with products not designed for that specific use." I had to giggle when I read that line in the Sweet Spot product information, I had never really thought about it like that. I just assumed soap was basically it, I mean I've seen a ton of intimate grooming products before but they just didn't look right. By right I mean they looked too old fashioned (douche?) or just weird (okay douche again) or too heavily flowery scented, it's a vagina not a field of flowers and mostly all those other products do is make it smell like a vagina with flowers on top.

Luckily, I've never had an UTI though I know plenty about them, I understand the causes, appreciate the science behind pH balance and try to stay away from products that would disrupt that. (side note: I am a nurse otherwise I probably wouldn't even care about pH balance and the likes) That is why Sweet Spot Labs products intrigued me, I saw them at Rickys NYC - looked them over - and saw that they were pH balanced and seemingly gentle enough, plus the packaging and branding has a refreshing vibe to them, SweetSpot Labs sums it up perfectly their products are "the re-birth of feminine hygiene in its modern form." My favorite products from the line are the Spot Fresh (unscented) which is a gentle soap for use down there and the SweetSpot Labs On-The-Go Wipettes icon that are perfect for use after the gym. I might not replace the wash once it's gone, because like I said I've had no problems from using regular body soap but the On-The-Go Wipettes are definitely a keeper for me. These products are available at Drugstore.com and Ricky's NYC

Beautiful Body: The Beginning

First off let me say, that I decided not to post pictures of my "start" body in fact I decided not to even take any to mark the start of this series. My main focus is not looks, instead it's health. Point blank bottom line: I need to be more healthy and being active and eating right is the way to go. With that being said, I am not on a diet. I'll never ever go on a diet, in fact I hate that when people say I'm going on a diet or I'm on a diet those phrases invoke images of denying yourself of the things you want to eat. I'm not saying McDonalds every day is the way to go, but denying yourself certain treats and snacks isn't either. Instead the keys to success are moderation and eating healthier.

Now on to the workout for this week, my trainer says that it will be a good way to start off and it targets the entire body.

Monday:

5mins of stretching and warming up
3 sets of 10 push ups (they could be done on knees if need be)
3 sets of 12 tricep kick backs
3sets of 12 bridges on a swiss ball(I'll be using the edge of my bed)
3 sets of 15 sec planks
50 crunches broken up into sets
Warm down by stretching

Tuesday: Rest (Just stretching and maybe cardio)
Wednesday:

5mins of stretching and warming up
3 sets of ten Military press with dumbbells
3 sets of ten dumbbell bicep curls (can also be done with bands)
3 sets of ten star sit ups each leg
3 sets of 20 body squats (for a
3 sets of ten side wall leg raises
warm down by stretching

Thursday: Rest (Just stretching and maybe cardio)

Friday:

5mins of stretching and warming up
3 sets 10 sumo deadlifts
3 sets of ten dog legs (each leg)
3 sets of 12 side plank extensions
3 sets of 12 reverse crunches
bicep curl and reverse press 2 sets of 10
Warm down by stretching
On my rest days, I plan on taking Prince my 2 year old Pomeranian on a 30 minute fast walk... I hope he can keep up!

Fitness Series: Beautiful Body

Now that I have successfully taken my nursing boards and landed a great job I can no longer ignore the fact that I am out of shape. I might not appear to be out of shape, but I am. I can't really run without be super tired and out of breathe and I have the beginnings of a belly plus I'm just not toned like I want to be. Back in October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), I read about MischoBeauty running for a cure and I think it's a great idea, it made me wish I was more in shape and could run as well. I even told her about the idea to track my progress here, I was a bit doubtful about it, but she encouraged me to just do it! So here it is, right in time for the New Year and because I know I can't do it on my own...I don't know where to begin or what to do even, I have enlisted help. That's right ladies, I got a personal trainer! AND I'm going to track my fitness progress right here on Beauty Blvd. I'm going to be writing a fitness series entitled: Beautiful Body.

Beautiful Body is all about health! The title might be a bit misleading, but I feel as though it's important to be healthy and I don't think you can have a beautiful body without working on it. It's not about being skinny or having the perfect video vixen figure, it's about embracing what you have and making it healthy! Please join me and feel free to follow the work-outs that I will be posting here, that is (here comes the medical disclaimer) after you check with your medical doctor to make sure you are physically capable and able to work-out. Beauty Blvd. assumes no responsibility if you injure yourself while working out.

Now here's how it will work. Each week I will post my scheduled workout session for the upcoming week, what I post is what I will actually be doing each day. Plus, since I'm not going to join a gym right away everything will be easy for me to do in the comfort of my own home. I may have to invest in some work-out equipment, but I'll let you know where I got it from and the cost. Stay tuned for the 1st week schedule!

Borghese Fango Active Mud

I've traded in my Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque for Borghese Fango Active Mud for Face & Body and I don't know how I ever lived without it! Borghese mud's are cream of the crop as far as face and body muds are concerned, and the price tag will let you know it for sure at $61.00 for 17.6oz. But seriously it is worth every single penny! I started out using it on my entire body (excluding my face) and it made my skin feel so soft and so pampered that I had to try it on my face.... I'm amazed at the result. My skin felt clean, soft, and my pores looked a lot smaller. I plan on being like my fairy blog mother, Julia from All About Pretty and using it once a week as an at home spa treatment. Her skin is like butter and if you want to read all about her skin care regimen head over to another one of the best beauty blogs, Makeup Bag. Beauty.com is currently running a special that will allow you to sample all the best Borghese products (a $183 value) for only $31.50!

Covergirl Outlast Lipstain

I was so hoping that I would love this new Outlast Lipstain from Cover Girl, but alas I'm beyond disappointed with this one. First off, let me say the felt tip made me feel like I using a Mr. Sketch on my lips minus the wonderful smell that would have been there had I been really using a Mr. Sketch. Remember the purple marker that smelled just like grapes and the pink was a watermelon scent... anyway I digress. The actual lip stain had a nice smooth texture and went on what I thought was evenly, but my bottom lip turned a bright red color while my top lip barely had any color to it. I added more color to my top lip, still almost no change and it was nothing like the bottom lip. Mind you, the color I purchased was Wild Berry Wink (440) not Really Red. I immediately went to the bathroom to try to remove the color, they don't call it Outlast for nothing. I scrubbed and rubbed until I thought I just might draw blood. So if you find a color you like, it will last and last. Tammy from Portrait of a Lady suggested I use a lipbalm prior to application for an even look.

Christian Louboutin of Mascaras?

Is the the Christian Louboutin of Mascaras? Well it certainly looks like it, Maybelline's newest mascara Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Washable Mascara is housed in a sleek black tube with a dash of red at the end of the tube. In the CVS display the brush is also red, but when I opened up my tube it was coated with mascara so I couldn't tell if it was or not. Just looking at the in-store display popped images of the Christian Louboutin Rolando Hidden-Platform Pump, otherwise know as my dream shoe, into my mind and although this was not a shoe I knew had to purchase it. Thankfully, I've been a bit blessed in eyelash department. My lashes aren't super long, but they have curl for days and just one coat of this mascara separated and lengthened just about every one of my lashes without any clumps. I was looking for a particular area on my left eye towards to outer rim of my eye to clump (it always does no matter what mascara I use) but it didn't! I was taken back a bit, then I was eagerly applying a second and third coat, but that's were I went wrong. With this mascara you really only need 1-2 coats, anymore and you'll have clumps. But overall, I was impressed with the separating and lengthening abilities of this mascara - bottom line it's a keeper just limit yourself to 2 coats, tops.

A Beautiful Year

It's 2009! Yay... we've all made it to see another year so let's make it a beautiful one. It wouldn't be a brand spankin' new year without some kind of New Year's Resolution, right? I have some resolutions (I prefer the term goals) that are strictly beauty.

1. wear spf every single day no matter the weather is looking like
2. wear eye cream every day
3. wear at least mascara and lipgloss if I'm leaving the house (supermarket counts)
4. start a work out plan
5. keep nails and hands looking beautiful even though I wash them about 1000 times a day (I'm a nurse)

The only resolution that might be a little tricky is number 4, but without a healthy beautiful body what's the point in make-up and nice clothes right? More on that another time. Enjoy the first day of this New Year!

Boo Boo Zap!

I told you all about my skin issues, and now I have added another product to the arsenal - Benefit's Boo Boo Zap. Again, I was at the Benefit counter (I really need to stay away!) and I picked this up and the sales girl came over like "OMG I love that stuff, it really works and FAST!" The product junkie in me said I'll take it and handed over my credit card, before the logical side of me could think it over.

Logical side 0 - Product Junkie side 12309210973829340!

Seriously, what is it about cosmetics and products?!? Anyway, I couldn't wait until I got home, I opened up the box, pulled out the slim bottle, popped open the top, and ... disappointment! I was hoping to see a roller ball, applicator tip, or something. There was nothing, just a flat opening with four tiny holes. It didn't stop me I put some on my finger then dabbed it on a pimple, but the liquid continued to run down my face. The packaging of this product, makes it very annoying to use, but I continued using it and after 2-3 days I saw a difference - the pimple was dried up. Not completely gone, but very much smaller than it had been. So the product works, but it's a bit messy to use. But there is an alternative that I haven't tried yet (the logical is telling me to use this one up first) The Ka Pow! nighttime blemish gel and it's clear so you can use it using the day.
